Introducing Stephan Wicky van Doyer as Our New Interventional Radiology Division Chief
Date Posted: Sunday, February 01, 2015 Please join us in welcoming Stephan Wicky van Doyer, MD, FSIR to the Interventional Radiology Division here at UMass. Doctor Wicky joined the Department on December 31st with high expectations for the future of the Division and Department as a whole.
Previously, he was the Division Head of Vascular & Interventional Radiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, overseeing 9 staff members, 17 technicians, and 33 nurses. Responsibilities included clinical, teaching, research, and finance duties.
At UMass, Dr. Wicky is most looking forward to mentoring staff, working with referring clinicians, and continuing the development of advanced IR procedures which have been initiated by Drs. Alencar, Malik and Surapaneni. Dr. Wicky says he will initially spend time observing the workflow in IR, meeting with referring providers, IR staff, and other stakeholders in order to develop a comprehensive short and long term strategy for the division. Interventional Radiology here at UMass will be “number one in Massachusetts within the next 3 or 4 years”, Wicky says. His goals at UMass are to provide cutting-edge clinical IR services to our patients, as well as advancing the research mission of our Department.
When asked why he wanted to become a doctor, Wicky said, “Human beings are very fascinating. I wanted to understand how to support people in unexpected medical circumstances. People have expectations when facing diseases and we can lead them through those circumstances with hope, compassion, and support.”
If you have not already, please feel free to introduce yourself to Dr. Stephan Wicky van Doyer.
