In the Spotlight: Shamir Kamalian, MD
Date Posted: Tuesday, August 25, 2015The Department is pleased to welcome Shahmir Kamalian, MD as an Assistant Professor of Radiology and new member of our Neuroradiology team here at UMass. Dr. Kamalian joined us on July 31st after spending 2 years at The Massachusetts General Hospital as a neuroradiology fellow and 2 years as a post-doctoral research fellow.
The passion for medicine runs deep in the Kamalian family as his father is a Pathologist, his mother and sister are Internists, and his brother, a radiology resident in Boston. Growing up, Dr. Kamalian would accompany his parents to their workplaces during the summer and fell in love with the idea of a career in medicine. Dr. Kamalian says, “The influence of such experiences deeply encouraged me to become a physician when I found that a dedicated, responsible, and meticulous physician can affect the quality of their patient’s lives so immensely.”
Dr. Kamalian’s main clinical interest lies in the field of stroke imaging. He says that “The wonderful work environment, incredible research opportunities in stroke imaging, and great collaboration between the division of neuroradiology and the other related specialties such as neurology and neurosurgery provide a balanced combination of great clinical experience and research” attracted him to our program here at UMass.
In his free time Dr. Kamalian enjoys listening to music, as well as playing the piano and drums. He also likes to spend time outdoors skiing/snowboarding, playing tennis, and hiking.
Please feel free to introduce yourself to Dr. Kamalian!
