Michael King, Phd, DABR- recipient of this year's Edward J Hoffman Medical Imaging Scientist Award

Michael King, PhD, DABR, Vice Chair of Research here at UMass is this year’s proud recipient of the Edward J. Hoffman Medical Imaging Scientist Award from the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society. Dr. King will be presented this award at the IEEE Medical Imaging Conference in San Diego on November 4th for his years of “contributions to clinical nuclear medicine imaging, especially compensation for realistic physical effects and motion in image reconstruction, emission and transmission imaging geometries, and task-based evaluation methods”.

Edward Hoffman is known for helping in the invention of the first human PET scanner. The Society of Nuclear Medicine Computer and Instrumentation Council also presents an award each year in honor of Dr. Hoffman. Coincidentally, in 2006, Dr. King received this award and was the second ever to do so. With two Hoffman awards under his belt, Dr. King who has been with UMass for 36 years shows no signs of slowing down in his research.
