Dr. Hussain in the Middle East
Date Posted: Tuesday, May 05, 2015Last month, as part of the Global Radiology program here at UMass, Dr. Sarwat Hussain traveled to Iraq and Saudi-Arabia where he was honored to deliver lectures and conduct work-shops within a two week period between March 23rd and April 3rd.
Karbala University Medical College was Dr. Hussain’s first stop. Here, he delivered a lecture entitled “Critical Analysis of Biliary Dilatation on Medical Imaging“. The second day of the trip brought The 8th Annual Conference of the Iraqi Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology where he spoke on “Imaging Guided Cholecystostomy” and gave a hands-on workshop on Ultrasound Guided liver, renal and breast guided procedures. Radiology staff, residents and nephrologists attended the work shop.
On March 25th and 26th, Dr. Hussain conducted another hands-on Interventional Radiology workshop on CT guided procedures at Al Sadr Medical City, Al Najaf. The first two hours were spent on didactic lectures and open discussion. Biopsy cases of liver, pleural, lung, bone and retroperitoneum were collected for this activity. Local Radiologists conducted procedures under Dr. Hussain’s supervision. Approximately 20 radiologists and residents from Al Najaf and surrounding provinces attended this particular workshop.
Once in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Hussain lectured and reviewed cases at the Department of Radiology, Prince Mohamad bin Abdul Aziz National Guard Hospital, Al Medina. On April 2nd, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, he delivered grand rounds to the entire hospital staff of The King Faisal Specialists Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC) entitled “Diagnostic Radiology in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer”. Dr. Hussain was chair of the Department of Radiology KFSHRC, Riyadh between 1997 and 2001.
