2015 International Meeting on Fully Three-Dimensional Image Reconstruction in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine
Date Posted: Wednesday, July 01, 2015On June 1 to 4, 2015 Michael King and Stephen Glick Professors of Radiology, UMass Chan Medical School along with Klaus Mueller Professor of Computer Science, Stony Brook University and SUNY Korea chaired the 13th International Meeting on Fully Three-Dimensional Image Reconstruction in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine which was held at the Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel and Spa on Goat Island in Newport, Rhode Island.
This series of meetings has served as one of the major forums for presentation of new results in the field of 3D reconstruction, primarily with applications in x-ray computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). At Fully 3D 2015 there were 220 registered attendees (an all-time high), with 154 from the USA, 45 from Europe, 19 from Asia, and 2 from Australia. Most of these are pictured below.

There were 54 oral and 115 poster presentations over the 4 day period. Each day started with an invited keynote talk by an expert in four different areas. Monday the talk was given by Kyle Myers of the FDA on assessment of image quality. Tuesday, Jeffrey Fessler of the University of Michigan spoke about iterative reconstruction in CT. On Wednesday Klaus Mueller of Stony Brook University talked on the latest in high-performance computing as applied to reconstruction. Finally, on Thursday Michel Defrise gave a talk on reconstruction in PET and TOF PET.
On Monday night before dinner there was a plenary talk on Clinical Application of 3D Reconstruction to Interventional Imaging which was presented by Ajay Wakhloo and Matthew Gounis of the Department of Radiology at the UMass Chan Medical School, which was the hit of the program as it illustrated how the research being done by those attending the meeting was being applied clinically to outstanding effect.
On Wednesday night travel awards were made to 36 student attendees made possible by the generosity of the sponsors of the meeting (in alphabetical order: GE Healthcare, Medical Physics, Medtronic, MILabs, NVIDIA, Philips, Siemens, and Toshiba).

“As chairmen, we express appreciation to the Scientific Committee for their prompt reviews of the large number of papers submitted to the meeting and to the members of the Organizing Committee for their invaluable help. We would especially like to thank Cliff Lindsay who served as web-master, and organized the efforts of the volunteers who assisted at the meeting including in alphabetical order: Paul Dasari, Yulun He, Arda Konik, Joyeeta Mukherjee, and Hennie Pretorius (3 of whom are pictured below along with Mike). We would also like to thank our chairman Max Rosen for attending the meeting on Monday.”
