In the Spotlight: Andrew Bennett
Date Posted: Monday, August 03, 2015The Department is pleased to welcome Andrew Bennett, MD, PhD as an Assistant Professor of Radiology and a member of our Emergency Radiology team. Dr. Bennett began with UMass on June 30th, after spending eleven years at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Soon after receiving his PhD in physical chemistry at MIT, Dr. Bennett decided he wanted to incorporate his “science interests with doing something useful”. He concluded that he would become a physician, a decision that was partly inspired by a book he read while he was working at the NIH. Dr. Bennett got his MD from the Harvard MIT Division of Heath Science and Technology and then continued with his medical internship at Lahey Clinic before graduating from the BIDMC resident and fellowship programs.
Dr. Bennett became a staff radiology at the BIMDC where he was mentored by our very own Drs. Max Rosen and Darren Brennan. Dr. Bennett said, “I participated actively in the abdominal section at BIDMC and spent two years in the emergency division. I very much enjoyed working in the emergency room and decided to take my career in that direction. Emergency radiology cases are often very interesting and it is a great mix of several different types of radiology in the age of increasing specialization.” When the opportunity to do emergency radiology at UMass on a more full-time basis arose, Dr. Bennett had to take it.
Dr. Bennett and his family currently live in Newton, Massachusetts. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Michelle Heller and their three children, Zachary, Max, and Emily.
