Welcoming Ronald Garrell, MD
Date Posted: Wednesday, April 01, 2015The Department is pleased to welcome Ronald Garrell, MD as a Radiologist in the Emergency Division, as well as an instructor for UMass Chan Medical School. Dr. Garrell officially joined the Department on February 27th and is looking forward to applying the many skills he acquired in 22 years of private practice to the Emergency Radiology Division at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Previously, Dr. Garrell was in private practice at the Marlborough Radiology Associates, practicing at Marlborough and Clinton Hospitals, and Southboro Medical Group. He believes that having the opportunity to work at UMass Memorial will allow him to expand his scope of practice and have have different exposure to tertiary care. This seems to be a natural progression that will be beneficial to the team and patients that are seen in the ED.
Dr. Garrell will be joining our ED Radiology Division, working the night shift, one week on and then two weeks off. He will be responsible for reading cases as well as supervising the residents. On his "off" weeks, he will be helping the Radiology Department cover other services during the "routine" work week.
Apart from receiving all of his medical schooling at Tufts Medical Center, Dr. Garrell also has his Masters in Engineering and has a great passion for computer programming and development. Some of Dr. Garrell’s most proud work includes the development of a program to reduce the amount of laterality errors while at Marlborough and Clinton hospitals. He explained that the program analyzes the history, symptoms, orders and radiologists notes in reports to then create “if, then statements”, which in turn reduces these left/right errors.
The Department looks forward to having Dr. Garrell’s knowledge and enthusiasm. Dr. Garrell can be contacted at Ronald.Garrell@umassmemorial.org
