Janet Oluwoe MD, second-year Diagnostic Radiology resident, was selected as a Society of Skeletal Radiology (SSR) Scholar. Janet is just one of 12 residents selected for this competitive, merit-based scholarship sponsored by the SSR.

I recently attended the 2024 SSR Meeting earlier this month. I had a wonderful time, it was a great conference. There were so many interesting presentations and exhibits. It was also great getting to meet and network with MSK radiologists, residents (including the other SSR scholars) and students from different institutions. During the conference, I had the opportunity to participate in an interactive Hands-On MSK Ultrasound workshop, which was amazing! Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures from this year's conference, but will definitely make sure to take more next year.

The goal of the SSR Scholars Program is to expose junior radiology residents to the different facets of MSK radiology. The scholarship will provide each recipient with:

  • Free registration to the 2024 and 2025 Annual SSR meetings with $500 in financial support from the SSR for the first meeting attended in person.
  • Free registration to the MSK Ultrasound course at the first SSR meeting which includes hands-on scanning opportunities in small group settings.
  • Pairing with an SSR Scholar mentor (SSR Scholar mentors are made up of leading MSK radiologists throughout the United States.)
  • Becoming a resident leader in the SSR, with opportunities to help run the SSR Resident Working Group, the Resident Session at the Annual Meeting, and other SSR initiatives geared towards residents and fellows.
  • Dedicated Meet and Greet session at the annual meeting with other radiology residents, fellows, and a variety of practicing MSK radiologists from various institutions.

Ryan Tai, MD presented at the 47th annual Society of Skeletal Radiology (SSR) conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ryan presented on behalf of a team, led by fourth-year medical student Jay Patel. Other co-authors of the project include radiology resident Nicolas Paez, musculoskeletal radiology fellow Debajyoti Saha, and musculoskeletal radiologists Ganesh Joshi and Elisabeth Garwood. Their project evaluated radiographic and clinical predictors of acromion fractures in patients with reverse total shoulder arthroplasties.
