Gracijela Božović - Post Doctoral Fellow with Dr. Bankier
Gracijela Božović, MD, PhD (Grace) joined the department in January as a postdoctoral research fellow working with Alexander Bankier, MD, PhD and the Cardiothoracic Imaging Section at UMMS and UMMMHC. She says that her decision to join was triggered by the ample research opportunities at these institutions and by the excellent research framework within the Department of Radiology, built and entertained by world-renowned experts in their respective field.
Their current research revolves around the quantitative assessment of thoracic diseases. In particular, it aims to develop, test, and validate novel tools and technologies for the assessment of lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and interstitial lung disease. The goal of this research is to improve clinical outcomes by designing individually tailored diagnostic approaches based on imaging techniques. On a larger scale, notably based on their lung cancer screening program, they will explore topics related to population health and access to preventive care.
Grace’s clinical background is an academic clinical radiologist, employed at her home university of Lund, Sweden. Her PhD thesis studied the role of imaging in lung transplantation. Beyond her clinical and research activities, she has also worked on imaging of historical artifacts, for example the 17th century mummy of Peder Winstrup, the founder of Lund University.
Welcome Grace!
