"Unfortunately, men who are at high risk of breast cancer aren’t being screened as often as they should, resulting in detection at a later stage when there’s higher mortality, according to Dr. Carolynn M. DeBenedectis, a diagnostic radiologist at UMass Memorial and director of the radiology residency program.
She said women are usually diagnosed with breast cancer at stage 1, when it is most easily treated. Forty percent of men with breast cancer are diagnosed at stage 3 or 4, when cancer cells have spread beyond the tumor and potentially to different areas of the body. The reason for this is, they’re not screened."
