Residents Teach High School Students

Two of our Radiology residents, Jojo Yeboa, MD and Roberto Kutcher-Diaz, MD, directed the radiology exposure day for North High School Medical Professionals of Tomorrow. The program is aimed at exposing students to skill-based activities in the health sciences with the aim of ameliorating the lack of men of color in the health professions. They created and presented a lecture on ultrasound to the students. In addition they ran a simulation lab on ultrasound and ultrasound guided biopsy for the students. According to Carolynn DeBenedetis, MD. Radiology Residency Director, "they did an outstanding job. I am very proud of them."

The Medical Professionals of Tomorrow (MPOT) outreach mentoring program at North High School was created in 2014 by two UMMS Medical Students. The program provides bi-monthly, after-school, workshops and activities that are designed to engage and encourage young men of color to pursue careers in biomedical research, biotechnology and the health professions. Ten additional medical students have volunteered since 2014, to be MPOT mentors including two North High School alumni. For more information about the MPOT program please contact Robert E.
