Introducing Alan Goldstein, MD
Date Posted: Monday, February 27, 2017Assistant Professor, Alan J. Goldstein, MD, joined the Radiology Division of Abdominal Imaging in July 2016. He graduated Medical School at SUNY Stony Brook and was a Resident at Yale New Haven Hospital. He completed a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging from Massachusett General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Goldstein says he was attracted to UMass' supportive department and department chair, the resources afforded by the medical school, and UMMMC as a complex, tertiary care center outside of the craziness of Boston. His clinical interests include; advanced body MRI including prostate MRI, as well as directed CT imaging such as CT colonography and CT angiography.
When asked what inspired him to be a doctor he answered "I always liked maps as a child; I would memorize mountain ranges, rivers, and cities. The human body is like a map, and becoming a doctor allowed me to take this love for geography and transplant it into a field where I am helping people every day, in an intellectually stimulating environment.
Away from work Dr. Goldstein's personal interests include basketball, fishing, hiking, traveling, and spending time with his family. His wife, Melissa, is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. They have an energetic 3 year old, Bennett.
