New Faculty - Refky Nicola, MS, DO

Refky Nicola, MS, DO, joined the department on August 1st, as an Assistant Professor in the Musculoskeletal Radiology Division. He attended Medical School at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Residency at UMDNJ-Cooper University Hospital and Fellowships at St Luke’s Roosevelt (VIR) and University of Rochester (Musculoskeletal).
Dr. Nicola joins UMMS after working for the past five years at the University of Rochester Medical Center-Strong Memorial Hospital where he was an Assistant Professor in Emergency Imaging. He was attracted to UMass because of the opportunity to do more MSK, new co-workers and the location is closer to family and friends. His family doctor was a great role model for him and was an inspiration for becoming a physician. Dr. Nicola’s clinical interests include resident education, ultrasound, sport and traumatic injuries, along with non-traumatic abdominal emergencies.
Outside of work Dr. Nicola enjoys reading non-fiction, traveling to warm destinations and trying new restaurants. He is married with two beautiful daughters. Dr. Nicola is looking forward to making a vital contribution to this growing and expanding department in central MA.
