In the Spotlight - Kelly Emrich, Physician Workflow Manager
Date Posted: Monday, May 09, 2016Kelly Emrich joined the Department of Radiology in February as the Physician Workflow Manager, the position recently held by Janet Greene who is now the department's Epic Coordinator. Kelly's job includes managing Professional Radiologist issues related to workforce deployment including interaction with Informatics Systems (PACS, Imagecast, Powerscribe). She works closely with the Chair, Group Practice Administrator and Physician Staffing Coordinator to implement initiatives both real time and for future strategic planning.
Kelly has been in the medical field for 25 years. Prior to UMASS, Kelly taught Business Technology for five years at Pathfinder RVTHS in Palmer, MA. Before teaching she worked at Harrington Hospital for ten years in Radiology as the PACS Admin and Manager of Radiology Support Systems. Other jobs included: New England Medical Center in the Physician Group Practice (NEHCF - New England Health Care Foundation, Inc) as a Manager of Support Services/Operations for 7 years, and her first job out of college was working at Fallon Health Care System as a Special Projects Coordinator.
About the opportunity presented at UMass, Kelly states "It didn’t take much thinking on my part that UMASS would be an ideal fit for me. The job itself seems exciting with opportunities to learn the latest technology. Since I started in healthcare in Radiology I have seen so much technological change in a short amount of time. I love helping people embrace the change and work more efficiently. So working with new technology in the Radiology field and to work in such a respected organization with amazing people, it wasn’t a hard decision to make. Although it was hard to say goodbye to my students, I was welcomed so warmly by UMASS and that made it an easier transition for me."
Kelly has been married for 20 years to Bill Emrich and they have a 17 year old daughter, Kelsey, and two cats, Simon and Stuey. Her daughter's year-round sports activities keep Kelly busy being a "sports Mom" and loving it. Kelly and her family love to travel. They have taken a few cruises to Europe and visited family in Italy. In her free time Kelly also likes to volunteer. She is presently an appointed member of Sturbridge Community Preservation Committee (CPC). While working at Harrington, she was a team captain on the Decon/Emergency Response Team. Kelly also volunteers with the high school booster club.
