Visiting Scholar - Takamitsu Tamura, MD, PhD
Date Posted: Friday, March 18, 2016The New England Center for Stroke Research is host to visiting scholar and research fellow, Takamitsu Tamura, MD, PhD from Okinawa, Japan. Dr. Tamura’s research focuses on innovative procedures and techniques involving Interventional Neuroradiology for treatment of cerebral aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations. He has two goals in visiting this laboratory. One is to learn from expertise in isolation of cerebral aneurysms and other advanced procedures or techniques in Interventional Neuroradiology. The other is to learn about methods of design for new endovascular devices. His current project in the lab is creating a bifurcation aneurysm in animal model.
Dr. Tamura earned his MD from the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan, and his PhD in Neurosurgery from Fukushima Medical University in Fukushima. His most recent position is in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of the Ryukyus Hospital in Okinawa, Japan. He is a certified specialist in Neuro-Endoscopic Surgery, Neuro-interventional Radiology and Neurosurgery in Japan. Dr. Tamura will be working with Matt Gounis, PhD, Ajay Wakhloo, MD, PhD and Ajit Puri, MD, along with other UMMS Radiology faculty for two years, from September 2015 until August 2017.
