Sean Boyden, the first person in his extended family to attend medical school, has been selected by his classmates to speak on behalf of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine Class of 2023 at UMass Chan Medical School’s 50th Commencement on June 4. Commencement will kick off a busy week for Boyden—he’s starting his psychiatry residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and getting married.
“I worked as a research coordinator in psychiatry at Mass General after graduating from Tufts University, so it feels like I’m going home for residency,” Boyden said.
In his speech, Boyden plans to discuss his gratitude for the education he’s received at UMass Chan and everything his class, which began pre-pandemic, has been able to accomplish and learn over the past four years. During his time at UMass Chan, Boyden completed the Senior Scholars Program and was honored for his creative writing.
“The best thing about UMass Chan is the people you surround yourself with,” said Boyden. “I’ve made some incredible friends. Whether it was in the library, at somebody’s house for a dinner, or out in Worcester, the memories we’ve made are too many to count.”
