UMass Medical School and health care providers across Central Massachusetts are looking to enroll participants in a historic, nationwide project to accelerate precision medicine research and improve health, as discussed in a new Voices of UMassMed podcast.
The National Institutes of Health All of Us Research program, launched in 2018, aims to boost precision medicine research and improve health by collecting data from 1 million Americans from diverse backgrounds within 10 years.
“The All of Us Research Program is not only unique in how many people it hopes to recruit but also the comprehensiveness of the data we hope to collect,” said Mara M. Epstein, ScD, assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and the Meyers Primary Care Institute at UMMS. “We hope to get genetic information, biospecimens, self-reported survey data, as well as electronic health record data.”
Epstein is the UMMS site principal investigator for All of Us at UMMS. She explains everything people need to know if they’re considering enrolling in the project, including what they are being asked to do, for how long and much more. Since March 2019, the regional program partner has enrolled nearly 1,400 study participants.
The All of Us Research Program will also be conducting an enrollment clinic at UMass Medical School in the Clinical Research Center, located on the first floor of the Ambulatory Care Center (Suite AC1-044) on Jan. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. To make an appointment, visit www.joinallofus.org/umassmedical or call 508-595-2267 to learn more.
