One-act drama ‘Perseverance’ coming to UMass Medical School Oct. 19

The UMass Psychotic Disorders Program will present the play “Perseverance,” the pilot project of its Celebrating a Beautiful Mind public event series to promote recovery and reduce stigma.

“Perseverance” is a one-act drama created and performed by a group of individuals with both severe mental illness and substance use disorder. Members of the UMass MIND Community Intervention Program (CIP) team along with licensed drama therapists from Lesley University guided group members to express their experiences living with the challenging dual diagnosis.

The CIP is committed to addressing the needs of those affected by a severe mental illness, who particularly rely on community-based wellness resources, by providing supports and educational opportunities. Performers will share their stories, play musical selections and hold a question and answer session to discuss the theater as therapy process.

“Perseverance” will be performed on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. in the Faculty Conference Room at UMass Medical School. The performance is free and open to the public, with free parking available in the Pine Street Lot on campus. Call 508-856-MIND (6463) or email MIND@umassmed.edu for further information.
