Kathleen M. Mazor, EdD, professor of medicine and associate director of the Meyers Primary Care Institute, has received the 2018 Health Care Systems Research Network Mentor of the Year Award. The Health Care Systems Research Network is the leading organization of health care delivery system scientists in the United States.
Dr. Mazor is a national leader in health literacy with an emphasis on improving physician-patient communication, communicating health-related information and disclosure of medical errors. Her research focuses on the patient’s perspective of the health care environment and the decision-making process.
One of her recent studies focused on using videos to convey information regarding breast and prostate cancer screenings to assist patients in making informed decisions. Mazor and colleagues found that the videos help patients because they are more story-like and engaging in how they convey facts.
