Katherine A. Fitzgerald, PhD, has been named a 2015 Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher for being one of the world’s most influential and highly cited scientists. This is the second consecutive year in which Dr. Fitzgerald, professor of medicine, has received the recognition.
Thomson Reuters analyzed citation data during an 11-year period to publish the “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.” It lists more than 3,100 individuals across 21 fields who have published the highest-impact work that is most frequently acknowledged by their peers. These papers rank in the top 1 percent by citation for their field and year of publication.
Fitzgerald is considered a leader in immunology for her work to unravel the molecular basis of host defense and the inflammatory process.
“Essentially, your peers have identified your contributions as being among the most valuable and significant in the field of immunology,” wrote Vin Caraher, president of Thomson Reuters Intellectual Property & Science, in an email to Fitzgerald announcing the recognition.
