Suicide prevention expert Barry Feldman, PhD, says no one risk factor will cause a teenager to commit suicide and provides a list of warning signs for families to act on, according to a story in the March 10 Boston Globe.
“If you focus too much on just bullying or sexual orientation, you take your eye off the underlying vulnerability a kid may have,” Dr. Feldman, assistant professor of psychiatry and director of psychiatric programs in public safety, told the Globe. “It’s an attempt to solve a problem of intense pain with impaired problem-solving skills.”
