Study: School nurses help teens to quit smoking

pbertspot

A new study by Lori Pbert, PhD, professor of medicine, finds that teens attempting to quit smoking were more likely to be successful initially if they were counseled by their school nurse. Dr. Pbert spoke to Reuters about her recent study, which was published in the journal Pediatrics. In the study, Pbert and colleagues surveyed about 1,000 teens who said they wanted to quit smoking. Close to 11 percent of those who got counseling for three months had quit smoking, compared to only six percent of those who only received educational pamphlets.
