What are dual function vectors?
Our lab is a pioneer in the development of dual function vectors, which allow the simultaneous silencing of an endogenous toxic target using an artificial miRNA, and the expression of the non-toxic variant as a transgene, or re-expression of the miRNA de-targeted variant. This is possible due to the small size of the miRNAs, which allows us to encode a miRNA and a mRNA in a single AAV vector.
