In this month’s Researcher Spotlight, we highlight the work of Raza Ur Rahman, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Alan Mullen, MD, PhD, the Mary DeFeudis Chair in Biomedical Research, and academic chief and professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Rahman’s research focuses on the development of novel analysis and data integration systems to understand human pathology. He has a specific interest in the integration and analysis of multi-omics large-scale data to understand underlying disease mechanisms, using computational biology and machine learning approaches. Since joining Dr. Mullen’s laboratory in 2020, the goal of Dr. Rahman’s research has been to identify cell type specific long noncoding RNAs that regulate liver fibrosis using computational systems biology approaches. He is also currently utilizing machine learning approaches to identify noncoding RNA-based biomarkers for liver fibrosis.
Dr. Rahman earned his PhD in Computer Science, Computational Systems Biology from the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Göttingen, Germany, and has completed postdoctoral training in Computational Systems Biology at the Center for Molecular Neurobiology, UKE, Hamburg, Germany. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow focusing on Computational Systems Biology and Machine Learning in the Mullen lab at UMass Chan.
