In this month’s Resident Spotlight, we highlight Rose Martin, MD, a third-year categorical Internal Medicine Resident. Here, Dr. Martin describes her clinical and research interests, what makes UMass Chan a great place for residency, and her various favorite hobbies!

What are your clinical and research interests?
I have a broad range of clinical interests and plan to pursue Hospital Medicine. As far as research goes, I am interested in gun violence prevention/firearm suicide prevention and public health policy. I’m also interested in quality improvement efforts toward equitable care for patients with sickle cell disease.
What makes UMass Chan a great place for your residency?
The diverse patient population, range of complex disease processes, strong educators, and collegiality. UMass has a skilled and compassionate workforce, and they help make work fun and even more meaningful!
Favorite hobbies?
I love pickleball, cross-country skiing, true crime documentaries, memoirs, and various fun but short-lived craft phases.
Favorite thing to do in Worcester/Worcester area?
Going to the New England Botanical Garden, finding live music, and trying new restaurants!
