January Resident Spotlight: Bridget (Xinmiao) Yang, MD
In this month’s Resident Spotlight, we feature Bridget (Xinmiao) Yang, MD, a third-year, categorical Internal Medicine Resident. We recently caught up with Dr. Yang to learn more about her clinical and research interests, what makes UMass Chan a great place for residency, and more!
Hometown?
Boston, MA.
What are your clinical and research interests?
Quality improvement, health systems, and transitions of care. I’m specifically interested in studying health systems to understand why healthcare is so expensive and inaccessible to many, as well as quality improvement to see what we can fix within our own hospital. Since I am going into hospital medicine, I am also interested in transitions of care to improve the gap between inpatient and outpatient care.
Are you involved in any other groups or activities at UMass Chan that you’d like to highlight?
I am part of the leadership of the Diversity Action Council. We are a group focused on improving diversity and issues of health inequality. Additionally, we have organized several events including cultural events, and grand rounds, and generated new ideas for recruitment to make UMass Chan and medicine at large, more diverse.
What makes UMass Chan a great place for your residency?
The culture is unique. Everyone from our hospital leadership to physician faculty, to scheduling admins, all care about our wellbeing. I feel that I can be open with anyone here and they will have my back with 100% care and effort.
Favorite hobbies?
Rock climbing, board games, video games, and hanging out with my cat and dog.
Favorite thing to do in Worcester/Worcester area?
Going to Sushi Miyazawa to get an omakase dinner at a price that is a total steal for its quality. I wasn't even paid to say that.
What is your go-to board game and why?
Betrayal at the House on the Hill. Honestly, I like any board game that takes hours to get through and I find that one really creative.
What was your favorite book as a child?
Even two decades later, nothing can beat the Harry Potter series.
In your spare time, what TV show do you binge?
Currently, King of the Hill, an amazing classic I never watched until now.
