Hometown?

Khartoum, Sudan

What are your clinical and research interests?
My clinical and research interests lie in genomics and personalized treatment approaches to tailor therapies for kidney diseases based on an individual’s genetic makeup. I am also interested in identifying new biomarkers for the early detection of kidney disease, especially in high-risk populations, such as those with diabetes or hypertension. Lastly, I am interested in investigating the effects of aging on kidney function, particularly in older populations who often have multi-organ diseases.

Why did you choose UMass Chan for your fellowship?
The Renal Medicine/Nephrology Fellowship at UMass Chan offers a well-rounded experience, with training in all aspects of nephrology, including dialysis, transplant, glomerular diseases, and critical care nephrology. Fellows benefit from a diverse patient population and a range of clinical settings, which is crucial for developing strong clinical skills.

Where is your favorite place to travel for vacation and why?
My favorite place to travel for vacation is Egypt. I have a special connection there because I get to spend time with my family. Egypt offers not only rich history and culture, but also the opportunity to reconnect with loved ones, making it a deeply meaningful destination for me.

In your spare time, what TV show do you binge?
Game of Thrones. You’ll get hooked on characters like Jon Snow, Daenerys, and Tyrion. They’re all complex, with real struggles and growth, and just when you think you know who’s good or bad, the show throws you a curveball.

Favorite holiday?
My favorite holiday is Eid al-Fitr. It’s a time of celebration and gratitude after a month of fasting during Ramadan. What makes Eid so special is the sense of togetherness it brings. Family and friends come together to celebrate, share meals, and give back to those in need. It’s a holiday that’s filled with joy, reflection, and a deep sense of community, making it a truly meaningful and cherished occasion.

Favorite guilty pleasure snack?
My favorite guilty pleasure snack is pizza. It’s the perfect combination of cheesy, saucy, and crispy goodness that’s hard to resist. Whether it's a classic margherita, loaded meat lovers, or even a veggie-packed option, pizza is always a satisfying indulgence. It's one of those comfort foods that never fails to hit the spot, especially when you're craving something delicious and easy!
