As the new academic year begins at UMass Chan Medical School, a conversation with Chancellor Michael F. Collins kicks off Season 5 of the Voices of UMass Chan podcast.
Chancellor Collins welcomes new students to the T. H. Chan School of Medicine, Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Tan Chingfen School of Nursing and details campus growth and expansion. He also explains the recently signed letter of intent between UMass Chan and Lahey Hospital and Medical Center to establish a regional medical campus and what it will mean for future learners.
“We had a lot of feedback from our learners who want to know more about the organization of the health systems,” he said. “With our future colleagues at Lahey, the idea will be to create an institute around these notions of leadership in the health sciences.”
Collins said the expansions would allow UMass Chan to increase the Chan School of Medicine class size and educate more doctors in Massachusetts.
He also provided an overview of UMass Chan’s new education and research building under construction and his vision for the 350,000-square-foot structure that is opening in 2024.
