Obstetrician and gynecologist Luu Ireland, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics & gynecology, provides updates on birth control, teen pregnancy and abortion rates in a new Voices of UMassMed podcast. Dr. Ireland said she is focused on caring for and educating her patients.
“In reality, one in four women will have an abortion before the age of 45,” Ireland said. “So, I think that the more we can normalize abortion, the more we can have the conversations that this is not a rare procedure, that this is a routine part of medical care, the same way that labor and delivery, prenatal care, and contraceptives are parts of routine medical care.”
Ireland also shares personal stories about her career path, including how an encounter with a third-grade friend sparked her initial interest to become better educated in women’s health.
