February Resident Spotlight: Anna Gubala, MD
In this month’s Resident Spotlight, we highlight Anna Gubala, MD, a third-year Internal Medicine resident on the research track. Here, Dr. Gubala describes her research interests, her involvement with different groups and activities at UMass Chan, and her favorite activities in the Worcester area.

Maynard, Massachusetts
What are your clinical and research interests?
My research focuses on the effects of obesity on cardiac geometry in pregnant women.
Are you involved in any other groups or activities at UMass that you’d like to highlight?
I am involved in the Internal Medicine Residency Research Track, a program that fosters strong research mentoring relationships along with advancing knowledge and skills in clinical, translational, and basic science.
I am also involved in the Thanksgiving Food Drive, where we organize an annual collection of canned goods and money to help benefit the Worcester County Food Bank during the Thanksgiving season.
What makes UMass a great place for your residency?
The supportive and wonderful community of residents and physicians, as well as the high clinical volume and sick patients.
Favorite hobbies?
Soccer, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, beach volleyball, playing Nintendo Switch.
Favorite thing to do in Worcester/Worcester area?
Indoor soccer at Teamworks and getting dinner and drinks with friends at local restaurants.
