Block Rotations
Long-term Care
Fellows spend two blocks working with Division faculty at 4 area skilled rehabilitation and long-term care centers, seeing new admissions, doing urgent and routine visits, participating in family meetings and attend medical director quality assurance program meetings.
Skilled Rehabilitation
Fellows spend two blocks working with Division faculty at 3 area skilled rehabilitation and long-term care centers that have active subacute rehabilitation services.
Geriatric Oncology
Fellows work with UMass Chan oncologists, radiation oncologists, urologists, gynecological oncologists in outpatient settings and acquire the symptom knowledge and skills necessary to evaluation and manage neoplastic diseases and hematological malignancies in the elderly patient in collaboration with relevant specialists.
Palliative Care
Fellows work with UMass Chan Division of Palliative Medicine faculty in the out- and inpatient setting, participating in longitudinal and consultative care, family meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings.
Neurology
In this rotation, fellows work with UMass Chan Neurology faculty in the inpatient and outpatient settings, seeing patients with a wide spectrum of acute and chronic neurological conditions, e.g., cerebrovascular diseases, stroke, movement disorders and cognitive disorders.
Acute Rehabilitation and Physical Rehabilitation
Fellows gain experience in acute in-patient rehabilitation management working with UMass Chan faculty and interprofessional team members (physiatrists, RNs, social work and physical, occupational and speech therapists) at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in Worcester. In addition, they participate in physiatry specialty outpatient clinics.
Wound Care
Fellows learn about the care of a wide variety of chronic and acute wounds, working with members of the Division of Plastic Surgery in the outpatient setting and with a clinical wound specialist in the inpatient setting.
