The UMASS Cardiovascular and Surgical Rodent Core is a leader in the field of cardiovascular translational research. We investigate molecular and cellular events that are vital for the regulation of normal and pathological cardiovascular function. The core conducts studies that utilize new and “gold standard” mouse models of cardiovascular disease. We collaborate with investigators to design various specialized surgical and physiological studies involving transgenic, knockout, or other mouse models that manifest cardiovascular phenotypes.
Our continuously growing development and availability of well-defined genetic strains, provide us with the ability to create transgenic and knockout mice, Making these mouse models extremely valuable biomedical research tools. Paired with our ability to manipulate these mice surgically is key for cardiovascular research with the mouse models.
