In support of our institutional values and ongoing curriculum improvement, block leaders and core teaching faculty are required to participate in a DRIVE core skills workshop annually.
DRIVE (Diversity, Representation and Inclusion for Value in Education) is a shared effort across the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Science, Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing, T.H. Chan School of Medicine, Diversity and Inclusion Office, Lamar Soutter Library, Continuing Medical Education, and Graduate Medical Education, whose goals are:
- To promote a representative and bias-free curriculum across our learning environments
- To enhance the accuracy, representation, and inclusion of diverse populations in all our educational activities
- To make space for critical conversations about diversity in teaching and learning across our community.
In this interactive workshop, participants will discuss all six sections of the Curriculum Appraisal Tool and their application to your own teaching materials. Given important changes in practice and the iterative process of both curriculum and diversity, equity and inclusion work, DRIVE workshops are updated annually. We recommend taking the workshop at least one month before your teaching commences in order to apply the learning and edit your materials and presentation plans.
The DRIVE team welcomes working directly with block and program leaders to offer a workshop specifically for all faculty that teach in your course. Please let us know if you would like to schedule such a workshop. Please share the DRIVE website (www.umassmed.edu/DRIVE), which contains workshop dates and other valuable resources, with your course teams and others who work with our learners and curriculum -- our goal is to engage all members of our institution.
