Judy Savageau Memorial Community Service
Judith A Savageau MPH was an Associate Professor in Family Medicine and Community Health As an epidemiologist, biostatistician, educator and mentor at UMass Chan for more than 30 years, she dedicated her life to the practice and education of community-based public health issues and preventative health measures.
Judy was a life-long believer in community service, regularly volunteering her time with local food pantries, tax preparation services, and various collection drives to support low-income communities.. Among her other altruistic acts, she would organize annual donation drives, arranging and delivering gift baskets for women staying in shelters and coat, hat and mitten sets for children in the Worcester public schools.
Judy Savageau Annual Coat Drive
The department of FMCH has chosen to honor her legacy by continuing the coat drive. Each year in early winter we partner with the UMass Chan Learning Communities to solicit donations of money and coats for children and youth in local Worcester schools. Bins are placed around campus and at clinical sites, with students, staff and faculty collecting, purchasing and delivering coats to the Worcester Public Schools.
Judy Savageau Annual Volunteer Opportunity
We are grateful to the larger institution for their recognition and commemoration of Judy's contributions to the culture of UMass Chan. In an effort to extend her impact, the Office for Community and Government Relations sponsors an annual school-wide volunteer opportunity in Judy's name, encouraging faculty, staff and students to join together in activities that build community and allow us to share our strengths working side-by-side with our neighbors.
