Consultation Service at the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital
The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital, previously named as Worcester State Hospital,is a State psychiatric hospital near the UMass university campus with 320 inpatient beds. The new state-of-the-art design marks an important shift in how mental health services are delivered in the United States in the 21st century, and represents a national model that fosters rehabilitation, recovery, and transition to independent living in the community.
The hospital cares for the most severely mentally ill patients – a large portion of them suffer from chronic, treatment refractory schizophrenia. The UMass Psychotic Disorders Clinic provides consultation service to those patients with challenging diagnosis or treatment issues during their hospital stay.
