Community Support and Engagement
COVID-19 Community Support
We understand that individuals with mental illness and their family members are facing serious and intensified mental, physical, and social health challenges due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Community health workers (especially staff working in supportive residential facilities) are at times the only point of contact for social and emotional support. Fatigue, stress, and workplace burnout have become a new normal. As such, the UMass MIND Community Intervention Program has launched a virtual education and support program for individuals with serious mental illness, their families members, and community health workers.

“Celebrating a Beautiful MIND” Public Event Series
The UMass MIND "Celebrating a Beautiful Mind" Public Education Series aims to provide education to the general public in a one day event. UMass MIND aims to educate the public on serious mental illness (SMI) and the co-occuring substance use and physical health concerns that come with these diagnoses. This series has covered topics incliding general SMI education, early psychosis education, physical health, and substance abuse. These topics were presented in partnership with local colleges and organizations in the community including Assumption College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, National Alliance on Mental Illness- Massachusetts, Genesis Club, UMass Chan Medical School, UMass Memorial Medical Center, and Community Health Link.
UMass MIND's goal with these programs is to decrease stigma, educate, and open conversation around psychosis and SMI.
