Survey Success: Free Parking Winners Announced

The online UMass Chan commuter survey conducted at the end of October elicited a strong response from the community, yielding important data about how people get to and from the campus for work or school. And six lucky respondents will soon enjoy a month of free premium parking.

Over 1,300 people completed the survey, exceeding the threshold needed for the results to be acceptable to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) which requires large employers in the state to conduct periodic commuter surveys. If the online survey response was too low, campus staff would have to conduct a lengthy manual process to track commuter patterns.

“I know people are very busy these days, both professionally and personally, so I want to thank everyone who participated in the survey,” said Bill Tsaknopoulos, director of auxiliary services at UMass Chan who oversees the campus parking program.

As promised, everyone who completed the online survey was entered in a drawing for a month of free premium parking. Six winners were selected. They are: Jun Chen, Debra Coniff, Michael Kneeland, Patricia Malcolmson, Rosemarie Maldonado and Eileen Small.

Data from commuter surveys of large employers help the Commonwealth plan and implement commuter programs and transportation projects.  By providing their real-world experiences, participants help to refine priorities for public investments that reduce road congestion and emissions from commuting.
