South Street Electronics Recycling
When it was over, the truck was full and cars were empty. All in all, it was a successful electronics recycling event.
On June 20, dozens of people who work or study at the UMass Chan South Street facility in Shrewsbury dropped off old air conditioners, TVs, vacuum cleaners and other items that had been piling up in their basements and garages.
More than 1,000 pounds of home electronics and appliances were collected by Northeast Material Handling, the school’s vendor for reuse and recycling of electronics and large bulk items.
“I’m glad we had good weather,” said Suzanne Wood, sustainability and energy manager at UMass Chan. “People at South Street were happy to have the opportunity to recycle those items, so I think we will do this again.”
