Elective Description: Students will increase their knowledge about the use of small group facilitation, technical skills instruction, and group modeling to teach first and second year medical students the physical exam. Students will be able to teach physical exam skills to medical students, provide explanations to student questions and concerns, and carry out small group demonstration and discussion on select parts of the physical exam. Students will be able to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of PD learners, provide constructive feedback to learners, and improve communication skills with learners and faculty. Course Dates: Course activities require students be available during the week to assist mentors with multiple PD sessions which take place in the morning and afternoon. Student development sessions are scheduled to occur each week. Students engage in preparation activities before each PD session topic. Enrollment: Students may be approved to enroll in this elective multiple times as for-credit or non-credit. However, they must enroll as 4 weeks for-credit the first month they enroll. Then they may be approved to complete the elective as a 2-week or 4-week credit or non-credit elective. Number of Patients seen: 3-5 Supervision level: During PD1 and hospital sessions mentors are available to provide supervision. |
