Fundamental Metabolic Pathways

Beyond our focus on metabolic alterations in disease, the Spinelli lab studies metabolic pathways at the fundamental level. This arm of our research program focuses on the discovery of (1)- new mammalian metabolites, (2)- novel metabolic pathways, and (3)- the tissue-specificity of utilization of metabolic pathways. We employ a combination of new technology that we develop and established techniques like stable isotope tracing and high resolution mass spectrometry to uncover fundamental metabolic pathways.
