Lourah Kelly, PhD, Receives NIAAA Conference Supports Grant Award

iSPARC is pleased to announce that our researcher Lourah Kelly, PhD, has received the NIAAA Conference Supports Grant award (R13AA031624) to help support 20 early career investigators (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early faculty within 10 years of their degree) to attend the annual American Psychological Association (APA) conference in person.

All awardees will present at a special poster session and attend a networking event, in addition to their regularly scheduled presentation. The Early Career Investigator Poster Session is an opportunity to present to leadership from five divisions across APA, especially Division 50 (Society of Addiction Psychologists) and Division 28 (Psychopharmacology).

The goal is to support the next generation of alcohol researchers by:

1. Providing the funding to attend the APA convention
2. Showcasing early career investigators’ research
3. Stimulating networking among trainees and leading alcohol and addiction scientists

These merit-based awards are reviewed and selected based on their scientific contributions. We are specifically encouraging early career investigators from backgrounds under-represented in research to apply. Dr. Kelly, an under-represented researcher, was awarded one of the R13 travel awards in 2020 and is paying it forward with the support she’s received from NIAAA and APA.

This R13 grant has been supporting early career investigators for the past 15 years and we are continuing to support the early career to independent investigator pipeline with researchers from under-represented backgrounds. The $74,001 grant will support 20 travel awards to APA over 3 years. The grant also supports Dr. Lourah Kelly and her Clinical Research Coordinator III, Nancy Hu, in coordinating this event.
