iSPARC Researcher, Colleen McKay, MA, CAGS, Cited in Dr. Tom Insel's Book
Date Posted: July 01, 2022“Does the Clubhouse deliver? We now have over half a century of research, with more than fifty studies, demonstrating that clubhouses reduce unemployment, reduce or delay rehospitalization, and improve health outcomes at a lower cost.” That is an important point made by Dr. Tom Insel, M.D., psychiatrist & neuroscientist and past Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), in his book titled: "Healing: Our Path from Mental Illness to Mental Health" on page 178, chapter 8: Recovery: People, Place, and Purpose.
In his book, Dr. Insel cites a research paper written by our very own Colleen McKay, MA, CAGS, iSPARC researcher & Director for Clubhouse Research, as one of the references for his statement. The paper titled "A Systematic Review of Evidence for the Clubhouse Model of Psychosocial Rehabilitation" McKay, C., Nugent, K. L., Johnsen, M., Eaton, W. W., & Lidz, C. W. (2018) Administration and Policy in Mental Health, 45(1), 28–47.
