Gina Vincent Awarded Funding from the National Institute of Justice!

Gina Vincent received $600,000 from the National Institute of Justice for a 3-year research project titled Optimizing Supervision and Service Strategies to Reduce Reoffending: Accounting for Risks, Strengths, and Developmental Differences. Her team is partnering with juvenile probation offices in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin to 1) identify youth protective (and risk) factors most strongly related to reductions in reoffending, and 2) examine the value of strengths-based (e.g., structured prosocial activities) versus risk-reduction (e.g., thinking for a change) services lead to the lowest rates of reoffending. In addition to generating empirical evidence as to how protective factors can be used in case planning practice, the goal of this project is to assist state juvenile justice agencies with integrating accurate methods for measuring their recidivism and strategies for optimizing their case planning practices.
