Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship with focus on tobacco cessation at the Bedford VA for Fall 2013

The postdoctoral residency program at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial (ENRM) Veterans Affairs Medical Center is offering an APA-accredited residency program in General Clinical Psychology with a special emphasis on Smoking Cessation.

The resident will receive training in the coordination, consultation and direct delivery of tobacco cessation services. The resident will work closely with multiple disciplines in order to assess and treat veterans with tobacco use disorders. The resident will deliver evidence-based tobacco use cessation services for veterans in a primary care setting and provide tailored tobacco cessation services for veterans with comorbid psychiatric disorders. In addition, the postdoctoral resident will have the opportunity to engage in program development for tobacco cessation services and tobacco research at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, including research on acceptance and mindfulness-based smoking cessation treatments (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) for veterans with tobacco use disorders.

All residency training involves an integration of professional activity and training from four primary domains: clinical; program development and administration; supervision and teaching; and research and program evaluation. Residents are actively involved in work within each of these domains. Residents are afforded considerable flexibility regarding training experiences and clinical focus within each of the four domains.

We will continue to review applications until the position is filled (for the fall of 2013). Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their materials soon.

Post Doc Associate

NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available immediately to work in the area of epigenetic regulation in the nervous system. The lab currently focuses on the molecular aspects of autism and psychosis spectrum disorders (including depression and schizophrenia) and the roles of histone (lysine) methylation and chromatin remodeling pathways in normal and diseased brain development (see our most recent publications: Proc Natl Acad Sci USA. 2010 May 11;107(19):8824-9; J Neurosci. 2010 May 26;30(21):7152-67; Trends in Molecular Medicine, 2011, July 17(7):372-9.; J Biol Chem. 2010 Sep 3;285(36):27767-75). The approaches we take range from stem cell derived cultures to (human) postmortem brain, molecular biology and (epi) genomics to mouse genetics. A strong background in molecular biology is essential.

We are seeking candidates who are self-motivated and career-oriented to join an exciting, highly interactive research team. The institution also ranks near the top among public medical schools in the Northeast in the amount of funding awarded by the National Institutes of Health and is considered one of the fastest growing research institutions in the U.S. To learn more, please visit: http://www.umassmed.edu/about/index.aspx.
