2021 Brain Bee
Congratulations to Neil Kale, a senior from the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science at WPI. Neil won the 15th Annual Central Massachusetts Regional Brain Bee competition and the 2021 Andrew M. Sheridan Young Neuroscientist Award. The Bee was held virtually on March 20, 2021. Neil went on to compete virtually in the US National Brain Bee on April 10-11, 2021.
For news coverage of the 2021 Central Massachusetts Brain Bee Bee, see this site.
Congratulations are also extended to our runner-up Iris Wu, a junior at the Groton School, and to all of the other competitors!
The Bee competition itself was conducted without an audience due to the need for remote participation, but the Brain Bee still provided education to the broader community. Keynote speaker Heather Gray-Edwards, PhD, Assistant Professor of Radiology and the Horae Gene Therapy Center at UMass Chan Medical School spoke on her research on “Gene Therapy for Tay Sachs Disease.”
Special thanks to Stephen Roll and Andrea Delaney of UMass Chan Medical School Department of Information Technology for their tremendous help with developing our virtual Bee format, and Neuroscience students from Assumption University who assisted with beta-testing and proctoring.
