Child Consultation & Liaison Psychiatry
Our Child Consultation Service is comprised of interdisciplinary team members including child psychiatry, psychology, and a psychiatric social worker who provide a wide breadth and depth of experience in behavioral health.
We provide assessments, recommendations, and support for a variety of behavioral health needs for children and their families while they are admitted to the Children’s Medical Center.
These services include:
- Safety and risk assessment
- Assistance in coping with a new or chronic medical illness
- Evaluation of a child who has experienced a traumatic event
- Referrals for more intensive or outpatient psychiatric treatment
The inpatient pediatric care team may ask our staff to work with a family to lessen the impact of a stressful experience, promote healthy coping methods, and help a child and family return to emotional well-being. UMass Memorial is a teaching hospital. In addition to our child and adolescent psychiatrists and psychologists, the care team includes residents, fellows and students training in the field of mental health.
