Addiction Research
The UMass Department of Psychiatry's Addiction Psychiatry Division is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the causes, consequences and treatment of addictive behavior. Research conducted by an investigative team focuses on topics from opioid dependence in young adults to tobacco research, to developing mobile technology for improving the lives of individuals suffering from addiction. Current initiatives are intended to produce novel pharmacological interventions for treatment, identify brain regions associated with addictive behavior and inhibitory control, and develop treatments and cessation techniques specifically tailored to individual needs.
