Dr. Kelly is the Bedford Site Director of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Integrated Service Network 1 (VISN 1) New England Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center, which is focused on addictions and psychosocial rehabilitation research. Dr. Kelly is also the Associate Director of the Social and Community Reintegration Research Program at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, in Bedford, Massachusetts., which is focused on community reintegration research of U.S. Veterans with mental health disorders. She is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the UMass Chan Medical School. Dr. Kelly’s research is focused on the areas of addictions, stress, trauma, and life functioning of individuals with mental health disorders. Dr. Kelly also has a history of several VA-funded studies on developing new behavioral interventions, particularly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to improve the community reintegration of Veterans with psychiatric disabilities, including Veterans with PTSD and tobacco use. Dr. Kelly has been involved in tobacco research and clinical work for the past 14 years, with a particular focus on the development of tobacco cessation interventions for smokers with comorbid mental health disorders. Dr. Kelly also provides consultation to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) on tobacco cessation issues in her role as a member of VHA’s Office of Tobacco & Health: Policy and Programs’ Tobacco Technical Advisory Group.
