Dr. Chin Feman is an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry, in the division of Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Chin Feman is board certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry in Psychiatry and in Addiction Psychiatry. She is originally from Massachusetts, and after receiving her medical degree from Tulane University, she completed her residency in psychiatry at Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Training program, followed by a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at Partners Healthcare. She joined the Department of Psychiatry at UMass in 2015. She serves as the psychiatrist for the Homeless Outreach and Advocacy Program, at Community Healthlink, where she treats individuals who suffer from homelessness, trauma, addiction and severe mental illness. Her research is focused on the integration of medical care and behavioral health care with treatment of addiction. She also serves as Secretary and Chair of the Public Sector Committee for Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, as well as Medical Director for Gavin Foundation.
Clinical Activity
Dr. Chin Feman is the psychiatrist at the Homeless Outreach and Advocacy Program (HOAP), where she provides treatment to a population suffering from homelessness, along with trauma, addiction, and frequently severe medical and psychiatric comorbidities. She sees patients in the office, as well as outreaching patients on the street. She lead an initiative to implement a model of integrating behavioral health and primary care for treatment of depression at HOAP. She also developed and launched the Office Based Addiction Treatment program at Community Healthlink’s Lipton Center in Leominster, MA. Dr. Chin Feman is also serving as the psychiatrist for a clinic to provide specialty care for women who are victims of sexual exploitation.
Additionally, she serves as the Medical Director of Gavin Foundation in Boston, MA, which provides a full continuum of substance abuse treatment, including outpatient, acute treatment service (ATS), clinical stabilization service (CSS) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP).
Education Activity
Dr. Chin Feman hosts medical students at HOAP during the outpatient portion of their psychiatry clerkship, as well as fourth year medical students and psychiatry residents who are on addiction psychiatry electives. Additionally, she supervises second year psychiatry residents on the outpatient portion of their addictions rotation, as well as a third year psychiatry resident for the yearlong community psychiatry rotation. She also lectures psychiatry residents about pharmacotherapy for psychotic disorders. She is a member of the UMass Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Evaluation Committee.
Research Interest
Dr. Chin Feman’s primary research interest lies at the intersection of addiction treatment, primary care and behavioral health. She is currently working to enhance the MISSION Model* to add tools and interventions around primary care integration and MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment). Her current project is working to increase access to MAT in Worcester using the MISSION Model.
