Postdoctoral Fellowships:
Cancer Prevention and Control
Fellows pursue independent research that addresses critical prevention and control care delivery issues across the cancer continuum, including primary prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship, with emphasis on promoting change in individuals, providers and systems. Our faculty mentors are leaders in population health sciences, health behavior change, Implementation Science, health informatics, systems change and health policy, health communications, health equity and low resource settings, and prevention and intervention research.
Health Communication for Cancer Prevention and Control
This fellowship focuses on the innovative use of technology and health communication. Dr. Elise Stevens is the faculty lead.
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Tobacco and Digital Health Research
Our robust tobacco cessation research program is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and Patient-Centered Outcome Research Institutes. We use novel methodologies, including psychophysiology to optimize health communication messaging. We also develop and test novel digital health interventions using crowdsourced peer messaging, gamification, and machine learning approaches. Addressing tobacco use disparities to achieve health equity is a major focus of our research. We conduct our studies in several settings—lab, social media, school, health care systems, rural, and in Vietnam (a low- and middle-income country). Trainees have the opportunity to connect with the Cancer Population Health Sciences (CPHS) Program’s Tobacco Treatment and Nicotine Dependence (TTND) committee, a network of researchers conducting tobacco-related work at the five UMass campuses. Faculty leads are Dr. Elise Stevens and Dr. Rajani Sadasivam.
Eligibility for all postdoctoral fellowships:
- Applicants must be interested in pursuing an independent research career focused on cancer prevention and control. All trainees must pursue independent research in this area while enrolled in the program.
- Postdoctoral fellows must have earned a doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, MD, DO, etc.)
- Applicants, per federal policy, must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. UMass Chan Medical School is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
